To be well-rounded makers, you’ll continue to develop techniques in hand drafting, sketching and model-building in parallel with digital making. We encourage you to create a physical work-space stocked with drawing and modeling tools and materials whether you will be on-campus or off-campus. Your digital workspace should include Rhino, which is available for a special Cal Poly price of $99 at the bookstore. You’ll also need Adobe Creative Cloud, and you may be asked to obtain Autodesk, Miro, and Conceptboard software, which are free for all students. These programs are used throughout the industry and expanding your knowledge of these will help you in your design work, fortify your resume and increase your understanding of practice. Some of your courses will undoubtedly be taken on-line this fall, so we also recommend attention to the ergonomics of your workspace, if possible.
